ASW maintains this page to keep our Windows 98 users
informed as to what updates are ASW recommended.

For Windows 98 users only. Windows Me users go here.

What is Windows 98 Update:

Windows Update is the online extension of Windows 98 designed to help your computer continue to work better and run better. Windows Update has a central catalog called Product Updates that includes new product enhancements such as system files, device drivers, service packs, and new Windows features. These enhancements will be recommended to you based on what is needed for your specific computer. Below is a quick procedure for using Windows Update. For a complete step by step procedure, please go to the ASW Windows Update Guide.

How to use Windows 98 Update:

Just click on the Windows Update link on your Internet Explorer Web Browser link bar, or use the Windows 98 Update link below. When you get to the Update page, click on Product Updates. When you are asked to install an Active Setup component click yes, this will install components needed to search Windows 98 Update. You will soon be presented with what updates are available for your Windows 98 computer.

How to install an update:

Check the box next to the update you want to install. We suggest installing only a few updates at a time. Next, click on the download button, and you will go to the download page. Click again on the blue download button, answer yes to the agreement, and the download and installation process will begin. After the installation is complete, you may be asked to restart your computer, choose yes so that the update can take effect. You can then return to the Windows 98 Update site to install another update.

What updates to download:

Below is a list of Windows 98 Updates and which ones are ASW recommended, which ones are not, and which ones can be installed if you would like. We will add new updates to this list as they are released. Available updates will vary depending on which edition of Windows 98 you have, your computer configuration and software components installed. If you have an ASW Custom Built Computer, and would like to know if a particular update which does not appear on this list is necessary, just e-mail us the update name, and we will be happy to let you know. We also provide on-site updating service for those who prefer not to update on their own.

Notice

Windows 98 and Windows 98 Second Edition users may or may not see updates which appear on our list below. Listed updates will vary depending on your version of Windows 98, your computer configuration, and software components installed. If you are an ASW customer and would like to know if updates which do not appear on our list are necessary to install, use the e-mail link at the bottom of this page and send us the name of the updates, and we will let you know if the updates are recommended.

Notice

ASW recommends that before using Windows 98 Update, that you shut down all background utilities, programs, and any anti-virus software that is running under Windows 98. We have experienced problems installing updates while such programs are active.
