Using
Windows XP Update after Service Pack 2 is installed.
To use Windows XP Update, open Internet Explorer. Click on Tools, then Windows Update.
When you get to the update site, a security warning box may appear. If it does, click on Yes.
Next, the Welcome, update your computer page will appear. Click on Custom Install to search for new updates.
On the left side of the page, available updates will be listed in four categories. High Priority Updates, Optional Software Updates, Optional Hardware Updates, and Optional Beta Updates. On some systems, Beta Updates may not show. ASW recommended updates will include those in the High Priority and Software Updates only. Never install any updates not listed on the ASW XP Update page of our site. To view this list, click on this link. ASW XP Update List
ASW recommended updates will be listed by category. Click on the appropriate category to see a list of available updates. Updates other than those listed on the ASW XP Update List may appear. ASW customers may e-mail ASW to check if these un-listed updates need to be installed. If any High Priority Updates appear that are not listed on the ASW XP Update list, please install them. All High Priority Updates must be installed.
Except for High Priority Updates, choose only those updates recommended by ASW that appear on the ASW XP Update page. Check the box next to the update to select it. By default, all High Priority updates will automatically be selected for installation. Remember, install all High Priority Updates. After you have selected the ASW recommend update(s), click on Install Updates located at the top left.
The install update page is next. This page gives you a summary of the updates selected for installation. Click the Install button on the right to begin the download and installation.
After the update(s) have installed, it may be necessary to reboot your computer. Do so at this time.
Your update installation is now complete. Remember to install only all updates that are ASW recommended, and appear in the XP Update list on the ASW XP Update page of our site.
