First, let’s print this guide. Turn your printer on, then in your Internet Browser, click File, then Print. When the print out is done, turn your printer off and restart your computer system.

Disk Check checks your drive for errors that may have occurred on your hard drive due to a program error or improper shut down. In Windows XP, if an error occurs, the computer will restart, perform a Disk Check and reboot to Windows XP. ASW customers are advised to contact ASW if such errors and reboots become persistent.

Disk Cleanup deletes un-needed files and temporary files from your hard drive. ASW recommends doing a Disk Cleanup prior to doing a Disk Defrag.

Click on Start. Go to All Programs, then System Tools and left click on Disk Cleanup.

When the Select Drive window appears, drive C will be selected. Click OK.

The Disk Cleanup Options box appears. Make sure there is a check next to all of the file types. Then click OK.

You will be asked if you want to perform these actions. Click on Yes. The Disk Cleanup utility will delete the files and then close. Disk Clean up is now complete and you can now do a Disk Defrag.

Disk Defrag, rearranges your hard drive contents in proper order which allows the drive to read data faster by not having to spend time searching for it. Defragmenting your hard drive will reduce drive search time and will help get back some of it's lost speed due to data being fragmented all over the drive from normal use. ASW recommends performing a Disk Defrag once every three months.

Click on the Start button. Go to All Programs, then System Tools and left click on Disk Defragmenter.

When the Defragmenter opens, click on C: to choose your Local Drive, then click on the Defragment button on the bottom. Defrag can take 6 minutes or more to complete. When it's done, a box may pop up telling you that some files could not be deframented. Click the Close button. Repeat the above steps for your D partition. When done, close the Defragmenter.

ASW customers can use the e-mail link at the top of this page if you should have any questions regarding Disk Check or Disk Deframenter.
